Sanborns ‘Giant Death Bread’ Rocks Mexico

skitched-20081113-112257.jpgMy girlfriend and I just booked a winter-break holiday in Mexico. Very psyched. We’re visiting Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city. It’ll be our fourth time in Mexico together, and my first real urban vacation in the country, after previous stops in Cancun, Cabo, and Playa del Carmen.

There’s lots to look forward to in a city so rich in markets and great foods (pozole!). A city that gave us the mariachi, and is just a few miles from the obviously excellent town of Tequila.

But what am I most psyched about? It’s got to be my first visit to Sanborns, the eminent, Carlos Slim-owned department store empire and food emporium I have heard so many great things about. Bring on the Pan de Muerto Gigante (which translates as either “giant death bread” or “bread of giant death”)!

You need to go to Oaxaca, birthplace of rellenos (stuffed chile peppers) and mole (chocolate and chili sauce)! Best food in Mexico!
