The Best Food in Wine Country

Thomas Keller’s lush and expensive wine country restaurant, the French Laundry, typifies the wine country experience that the food press swoons over. But the best food find in wine country is a heck of a lot cheaper and doesn’t require either reservations or a jacket– Elenita’s taco truck in Santa Rosa. The eponymous owner serves up mighty fine small soft-shell corn tacos with a selection of meats that include beef, chicken, tripe and spicy pulled pork. Each taco is topped with two radish slices, a lime wedge and chopped cilantro, all for $1.25 a pop. You even get an extra taco to sop up the savory juices that run into the paper box it is served in, a nice touch.

So if Michael Chiarello invites you over for a NapaStyle meal at his vineyard, skip it and instead go where the guys who pick his grapes eat.

Three is how many I have at a time! They are very tasty and even better with sparkling water garnished with 'deo's' lemons...they are especially enjoyable I have heard while reclining on a certain old blue recliner a block away! xox

I would have one per minute if only I didn't live in the arctic Northeast. I love to hear about great food from unexpected sources: these are the true gems. Thanks for posting.
  • it looks like onions and quite some soy sauce
