The No Deer Hunter

executionPanic on the streets of Fairfield!

After a particularly contentious deer management meeting on Tuesday night at which animal rights activist Nancy Rice berated Commissioner Landon Storrs saying, “You’re evil, you’re a killer!” Storrs has decided to resign from the sub-committee saying, “I’m afraid of these people.”

Storrs told the Minuteman she filed a non-actionable complaint with the Town of Fairfield Police Department against Rice who she said threatened Storrs and another committee member, Joan Neiley, as they walked to their cars yelling, “You’ll be sorry for this!”

And your little dog too! Fairfield is experiencing problems with too many deer, having an estimated 75 per square mile where 10 to 15 will do. The subcommittee is considering a cull like that in nearby Greenwich a few years ago, which “took out 80 deer at a cost of $47,000 with the carcasses donated to a New York soup kitchen that processed the meat for free.”

Later there was a protest by the anti-hunting group Friends of Animals, led by the aforementioned Rice:

The protesters’ initial press release said they would march from Sherman Green to Old Town Hall, however, all but one protester got into their cars and drove the quarter-mile.

Take it from me: they were inĀ  SUVs.

Actually Jackson, the press release didn't say that we would "march", it said we would proceed. However, had it not been for time constraints, we would have walked. As we stood at Sherman Green, the reception from the public was so positive we stayed longer than expected. People approached us asking for information and those attending the concert on the green were eager to receive the flyers.

And since you claim to know about this protest, how many SUV's did you see? There wasn't one. There were three cars driven over and not one the size of an SUV. Please get your facts straight.

Or you could write for the Minuteman paper. The reporter didn't check facts either before printing the wild story you quote from above about one of the subcommittee meetings, which doesn't represent what really happened. Someone made up the term non-actionable complaint. The police department never called it that and stated that Storrs was told there was nothing criminal or illegal that took place. Either Storrs and Neily lied about events or the Minuteman wove this story. Either way, there are 6 people in addition to me who can prove it didn't happen as written in addition to a videotape of the meeting.

You can feel free to contact me in the future if you would like to get the real story with facts. Thank you.

Wow. What an image to use. I don't even know what you said in the post. That image has some serious emotional power for people of a certain generation. As a young boy, I saw that cold-blooded execution on the TV news and the blood spurted several feet from the man's head. It was one of the horrible moments that brought the Vietnam war home.

Apparently there's something going on with deer?
