This Week in Bacon
Today’s the day, bacon fans. Heather Lauer’s long-awaited paean to bacon–which she may have announced publicly the existence thereof for the first time right here at Crispy–is released today.
To write the book, Lauer, proprietor of Bacon Unwrapped, traveled the country to learn the story of bacon from the people who raise the pigs, serve up bacon, and create cutting-edge bacon dishes.
Order your copy of Bacon: A Love Story: A Salty Survey of Everybody’s Favorite Meat today. Kindle it here.
Congrats Heather!
Bacon Competition Update

Heather Lauer of the inimitable Bacon Unwrapped liked the idea of our Three Degrees of Bacon competition enough that she’s gotten it posted at Bacon Nation.
Writes Bacon Nation’s Secretary of Bacon Affairs Nina Simmons:
The winner will receive a bacon weave business card holder, courtesy of 11:11 Enterprises. I have one of these myself and it’s really awesome – it’s a must-have for any true bacon lover!
So go hog wild and link any food to bacon in three steps or less and remember the more wacky, out there or creative the better!
Entries are due by 5 pm EDT on Friday, March 13.
Heather, I, and some other bacony folks will judge the contest. Currently, the words “sheep testicle gauntlet” actually appear (courtesy Lauer) in the comment contest thread.
Don’t forget to pre-order your copy of Lauer’s homage to crispy thin strips of pork, Bacon: A Love Story.
Crispy Podcast Episode 5
In this episode of our allegedly weekly podcast, we chat with Heather Lauer, proprietor of the bacon blog BaconUnwrapped.com. Heather recently inked a deal to write a book completely about bacon and is now on a road trip across the country visiting various bacon-related spots, including smokehouses and hog farms. We catch up with her in St. Louis and discuss her book, her travels, and all things bacon.
